The unsaved “Christian”

“I am a christian”. That is what I would say. And that is what I thought.
Yes, I used to be an unbeliever once. (Yes, go ahead and laugh). I am laughing too at the
ridiculousness of that statement.
But on a more serious note, on a more obvious but sometimes overlooked note, every person is
born into the world as a sinner and an unbeliever. Therefore every believer was once an
unbeliever. So there I was, walking around an unbeliever, and I did not know it.
Ephesians 2: 1 -3
“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once
walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the
air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once
conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.”
Before I was born again, I saw myself as a christian. I shudder now to think of how I took such a
deadly important decision so lightly, and so slowly. I just hated it when Christians urged me to
get saved. Here I was: quiet, introverted, demure, wouldn’t look people in the eye, non
glamorous etc. Why then is it that these “born-again” people thought I needed to get saved?? I
would ask. It was as though there was a sign on both my forehead and occiput. Now I realize
that it was not the Christians. It was God searching me out and chasing me down.
But God
Ephesians 2:4 starts out saying “ But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with
which He loved us”.
God was sending His people to woo me unto Jesus. God was not looking at my outward
appearance or my shyness. God KNEW who I was in the spirit. He was looking at my spirit and
my soul. He knew I was not saved, I didn’t have Jesus in me.
You see, there is only one way to get saved. Praise God. isn’t that awesome? Isn’t that so easy.
No need to wander about, or to wonder how to get saved. There is Only one way.
Only one way for every generation, every tribe, tongue, peoples, gender, creed and skin color.
So easy. No confusion. Jesus Himself said so.
John 14:7
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through Me.”
So, whether shy, extroverted, quiet, loud, successful, unsuccessful, prince or pauper, prime
minister or president, billionaire or penniless, genius or unintelligent- everyone needs to receive

Jesus to get salvation. As they say: “the ground is level at the foot of the cross”. Everyone is at
the same status before God. And everyone is to come through the door, Jesus.
So close yet so far away
I grew up in a church going home, and growing up, I was in church everytime we could go to
church etc. I had never argued that God existed or that Jesus came and died. I did good to
others, and did my best to live morally upright (at least by human standards), I thought myself to
be a Christian because we understood that Christians went to church, did good things and
accepted the existence of God. But the problem is I had never understood that Jesus’s sacrifice
was to be a substitution for me, that I needed to consciously and voluntarily accept His death as
mine, His burial as mine, and His resurrection as mine. I didn’t know I was to make Him the Lord
(boss) of every aspect of my life.
The problem was that I and my then denomination had acquired the outward appearance of
christianity but had not obtained the inward change of nature that can only be worked by the
Holy Spirit at the moment when we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord in our lives.
We had “put the cart in front of the horse”.
However, somewhere in the back of my mind, especially at bedtime, I wondered if I was missing
something. The thought would cross my mind, ‘If I die in my sleep tonight, will I go to God in
heaven?’. And somehow that question made me feel uneasy.
Splitting Hairs
I was right there in church, had a mental agreement of the things of God but I did not have
Jesus in my heart, nor the Holy Spirit in me.
This may sound like semantics, but check out the Bible, this is SO important. You see being a
Christian is not something we do, being a Christian is something we are!.
It seems like a fine line or like splitting hairs but is it not at all.
It is the difference between myself being my savior and Jesus being my savior. It is the
difference between I am trusting in my goodness as the source and foundation of my salvation
and I am trusting in the sinless sacrifice of Jesus as the basis for my salvation. I am going
through the legal “door” to God. John 10: 9 “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be
saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
When I share Jesus with unbelievers, some people say. I am a christian because my family is
Christian. I am Christian because I come from America. I am a christian because I am a nice
person. It hurts my heart that we can have this access to have eternal life with God, but due to
misunderstanding, we might miss it. We are not living in a place where we are forbidden to
accept Jesus as Lord. We are free to make God Almighty our God and Jesus Christ our Savior.
The White Flag:
There is only one way to be a true Christian or believer in God. It is through the atoning sacrifice
of Jesus. When we accept Jesus as our means of salvation, we are accepting the exchange of
His payment to remove from us the sin nature that we had inherited from Adam. The payment
for everything wrong we have ever done wrong or will ever do. The passport of citizenship in the

kingdom of God. The ticket to a life of fellowship and sonship with God. Have you accepted this
ready entrance (boarding pass) to the throne room of God Almighty.
Please, on behalf of God Almighty, I am pleading with you today, kindly take a moment right now
to address this issue.
If you do not know that you have ever conscientiously and seriously invited Jesus into your
heart to be your Lord (overall boss), and Savior (the means by which you have right-standing
with God), Please let’s pray together and ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life today.
You can pray in your own words or you can pray the prayer we have provided here. The
important thing is that it comes from your wholehearted decision.

Prayer of Salvation
Jesus, I believe with all my heart that you died for my sins, that you were buried and that
on the third day, God raised you from the dead.
I agree with what all that God says about you, and I openly speak with my mouth that
You are Lord. I receive You as my Lord and my Savior. Jesus come live in my heart, and
change my life. Thank You for loving me so much and saving me. Lord, by faith in your
word, I receive salvation now.

Or if you are not sure if you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, the easiest solution
is to do it today, pray and ask Jesus into your heart. This way you can now always be sure, and
you can write today’s date down in your book of records. 20 years from now, you want to be
able to remember to share with your family and your congregation.

If you have prayed to receive Jesus into your heart today. Write this date down so you can
always remember it. Just like you celebrate your natural birthday, celebrate your spiritual
birthday, so you always keep eternity before you.
Please share with us by email, letter or by phone call if you prayed to receive Jesus into your
heart for the first time today.
Let us know any questions you may have. We would love to help you find clarity on this crucial
matter.
